The Cost of Owning an Australian Labradoodle: What You Need to Budget
Budget $3,000 for a puppy from a reputable Australian Labradoodle breeder cost of owning Australian Labradoodle, another $500 to $1,500 for initial supplies and first vet visits, and $150 to $350 per month for ongoing food, grooming, vet care, and pet insurance. Total first-year cost typically runs $5,000 to $7,000, then $2,000 to $4,500 per year after that. Over a 12 to 15 year lifespan, plan for $25,000 to $60,000 in total ownership costs. Low-priced puppies from backyard breeders may look like a bargain up front, but they often lead to far higher lifetime costs when untested genetics result in hip surgery, chronic allergies, or genetic disease. At Bestland Australian Labradoodles in Rome, GA, our puppies start at $3,000 with a $500 non-refundable deposit that applies toward the total, and every puppy comes with a Signature Bestland Puppy Layette, microchip, vaccinations, a 2-year written genetic health guarantee, and lifetime breeder support.
Here is a category-by-category breakdown of what to actually plan for over the life of your dog.

Upfront Cost: The Puppy Itself
Australian Labradoodle puppies from reputable breeders range from $2,500 to $4,000. A price at the low end of that range typically means fewer health tests, less socialization, or a smaller-scale program. A price at the high end usually reflects extensive genetic testing, structured early development, and a full support package.
What affects price:
- Multigen vs. early generation. Multigen Australian Labradoodles cost more than F1 or F1B Labradoodles because of the pedigree work and health testing.
- Breeder reputation and registry. ALCA, ALAA, and WALA members typically charge more because they meet stricter breeding standards.
- Health testing on parent dogs. OFA, PennHIP, and full DNA panels add real cost that responsible breeders pass along.
- Coat color and pattern. Rare colors and patterns can cost $500 to $1,000 more.
- Size. Miniature puppies often cost slightly more than mediums or standards due to breeding difficulty.
- Waitlist length. Popular breeders can be booked out 8 to 12 months.
Bestland puppies start at $3,000 with a $500 non-refundable deposit that applies to the total. Domestic delivery is available three ways: airport delivery to a major U.S. airport ($500, includes flight crate and health certificate), door-to-door flight nanny service ($600 to $800), or a driving nanny at $1.20 per mile from Rome, GA to your door.
What a Reputable Puppy Price Includes
The sticker price of a well-bred puppy includes more than the dog. It reflects the actual cost of raising healthy, well-socialized litters. When you compare breeders, ask what is included.

- Microchip already implanted and registered
- Up-to-date vaccinations and deworming
- Starter bag of Life’s Abundance puppy food
- Blanket or toy that smells like mom and littermates
- Complete puppy packet with vet documents and care instructions
- ALCA pedigree paperwork
- 2-year written genetic health guarantee
- Lifetime breeder support via phone, text, email, and private Facebook group
- Access to ongoing training seminars

Initial Supplies and Setup
Before your puppy comes home, plan to spend $500 to $1,500 on supplies and initial vet care.
Supplies (typical spend $300 to $700):
- Crate with divider: $60 to $200
- Bed and pad: $30 to $100
- Food and water bowls: $20 to $50
- 2 to 3 weeks of puppy food: $50 to $100
- Collar, leash, ID tag: $40 to $80
- Harness: $30 to $60

- Grooming tools (slicker brush, metal comb, nail clippers, shampoo): $60 to $150
- Enzymatic cleaner and cleaning supplies: $30 to $60

Our guide on how to prepare your home for a new Australian Labradoodle puppy walks through the full supply checklist.
First vet visits (typical spend $200 to $800):
- Wellness exam within 3 to 5 days of pickup: $50 to $100
- Booster vaccinations through 16 weeks: $75 to $200 per visit
- Fecal exam and deworming: $40 to $80

Monthly Recurring Costs
Ongoing monthly expenses for an Australian Labradoodle typically run $150 to $350 depending on choices around insurance, food quality, and daycare.
Food
Typical monthly cost: $30 to $80
A high-quality puppy or adult food is one of the best investments you make in your dog’s long-term health. Low-quality foods often cause digestive issues, skin problems, and coat quality issues that show up in vet bills. Bestland feeds Life’s Abundance, and our Australian Labradoodle nutrition guide walks through what to look for on the label and how to budget for it.
- Mini (15 to 25 lbs adult): 1 to 1.25 cups per day, roughly $30 to $50 per month
- Medium (30 to 45 lbs adult): 1.5 to 2 cups per day, roughly $40 to $65 per month
- Standard (45 to 65 lbs adult): 2 to 3 cups per day, roughly $55 to $80 per month
Add $10 to $30 per month for treats.
Professional Grooming
Typical annual cost: $480 to $1,200
Australian Labradoodles need professional grooming every 6 to 8 weeks for life. Skipping grooming is not an option; the coat mats fast and shaving out mats gets expensive.
- Standard groom: $80 to $150 per appointment
- 6 to 8 appointments per year
- Additional cost for ear plucking, sanitary trim, or de-matting
You can reduce grooming costs by learning to brush thoroughly at home and handle nails, ears, and face trims between professional sessions. Our Australian Labradoodle grooming guide covers the full technique.
Preventive Vet Care
Typical annual cost: $200 to $500 after the first year
- Annual wellness exam: $50 to $100
- Booster vaccinations: $75 to $200
- Fecal exam and heartworm test: $50 to $100
- Dental cleaning as needed: $300 to $700 every few years
Preventive Medications
Typical annual cost: $200 to $400
- Heartworm prevention: $10 to $25 per month
- Flea and tick prevention: $15 to $30 per month
These are non-negotiable in the Southeast, where flea and tick pressure is year-round and heartworm is endemic.
Pet Insurance
Typical monthly cost: $30 to $80
Pet insurance is optional but often worth considering, especially for standard-size dogs prone to hip dysplasia or families without a dedicated emergency fund.
- Monthly premiums vary by age, breed, and coverage level
- Most policies cover accidents and illness, not preventive care
- Read the fine print on hereditary condition coverage, waiting periods, and reimbursement rates
Alternative to insurance: set aside $2,000 to $5,000 in a dedicated pet emergency fund.
Training Classes
Typical first-year cost: $100 to $500
- Group puppy class (4 to 6 weeks): $100 to $250
- Basic obedience class: $150 to $400
- Private lessons: $75 to $150 per session
Australian Labradoodles are highly trainable and most families need only foundational classes. Our training guide covers what to focus on at each stage.
Boarding, Daycare, and Dog Walking
Variable cost depending on lifestyle
Australian Labradoodles do not thrive left alone for long stretches. If your household is empty most weekdays, plan for:
- Doggy daycare: $25 to $50 per day
- Dog walker: $15 to $30 per walk
- Boarding for travel: $40 to $80 per night
First-Year Total: What to Expect
Realistic first-year total for a well-cared-for Australian Labradoodle in the Southeast:
- Basic first year (no insurance, no daycare): $5,000 to $6,500
- Standard first year (insurance, occasional daycare): $6,500 to $8,500
- Higher-touch first year (insurance, regular daycare, training): $8,500 to $10,900
Most families spend around $6,000 to $7,000 in the first year, then $2,500 to $3,500 in each following year.
Lifetime Cost Estimate
Australian Labradoodles typically live 12 to 15 years. Over that span, most families spend $25,000 to $60,000 in total ownership costs, plus the initial purchase.
The lowest-priced puppy is rarely the lowest-cost dog. A well-bred, health-tested puppy from a reputable breeder saves thousands over the life of the dog by avoiding preventable hereditary conditions.
Hip surgery for one hip runs $3,500 to $7,000. Chronic allergy treatment can cost $1,000 to $3,000 per year. Managing epilepsy or Addison’s disease can add $500 to $2,000 per year in medication. A 2-year written genetic health guarantee from a health-tested breeder is meaningful protection against most of that. Our guide on Australian Labradoodle health testing explains exactly what testing responsible breeders do and what conditions the guarantee covers.

We had a wonderful experience with Bestland Australian Labradoodles and Jeremy from beginning to end. Choosing to bring another dog into our family was an important decision for us, and Jeremy was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, responsive, and helpful throughout the entire process. What impressed us most was the obvious care that goes into raising these puppies. When we brought Murphy home, he was confident, affectionate, curious, and remarkably comfortable adjusting to his new surroundings. He slept through his first night with very little whining, has taken naturally to his crate and play area, and has already begun developing a wonderful relationship with our older Labradoodle, Abbie. Murphy is a beautiful puppy, but even more importantly, he has a wonderful temperament. You can tell he received a great deal of love, attention, and socialization before coming home with us. We couldn’t be happier with Murphy or with our experience with Bestland. We are very grateful to Jeremy for helping bring this special little guy into our family and would highly recommend Bestland Australian Labradoodles to anyone looking for a well-raised, loving Australian Labradoodle.+0Posted on Google![]()

Our dog Molly was born in June and we picked her up in late August. She is a wonderful dog and we are so pleased. This is our first dog and Jeremy was very helpful throughout the process. Their dogs are beautiful, have great temperaments, and obviously had great socialization and a loving home at Bestland. We couldn’t be happier with our experience! From the very beginning, the communication was wonderful, and it was clear how much love and care goes into raising these puppies. Our sweet Hank has been the absolute best addition to our family. He is happy, loving, playful, and has the sweetest little personality. You can tell he was raised in a caring environment and given so much attention before coming home to us. He has adjusted beautifully and already feels like he has always been part of our family. I’m so thankful we chose this breeder and would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking to add an Australian Labradoodle to their family. We are completely in love with our Hank! ❤️🐾+2Posted on Google![]()

UPDATE at 4 yrs: We continue to enjoy our Bestland boy! Don’t get me wrong, he has the typical labradoodle quirks such as me having to buy two pairs of slippers so I always have at least one pair to put on after he sneakily steals one! But he is still one of the best “investments” we’ve ever made. He continues to have ZERO health problems. All our friends run up big vet bills with allergies and ear infections and more but he just gets his annual checkup and is declared in perfect health! His coat is very forgiving with respect to my unprofessional grooming. I like to do my own grooming to save money and bond with him. He is super smart. If we lose a ball on the trail I just say “Go get the ball” and he hunts it down no matter how far back it disappeared. He loves other dogs and we’ve started a neighborhood dog pack walk every morning so he gets his social fix. He is loving and cuddly and we just can’t imagine our lives without him. 2 yr UPDATE: Our Bestland ALD is now almost 2 years old. I wrote the review below quite some time ago so just wanted to reiterate everything said before plus say how important it is to go with a reputable breeder like Jeremy and Marcella Best. At the time it seemed like a lot of money for a puppy but since I’ve watched so many people try to economize on the breeder price but then they spend WAY more on vet bills later. Our dog has had ZERO health problems—no ear infections, no allergies, nothing. He is an absolute joy. Previous Review: Bestland ALD is the best possible breeder. Jeremy Best reviewed what we wanted in a family pet and recommended a puppy to meet those needs. He and Marcella are so knowledgeable about the breed and provide detailed owner training prior to picking up the puppy on everything from the right diet to crate training and more. They have been very responsive in answering questions we have had since bringing our puppy home. Our little guy is without a doubt the best dog I’ve ever known and I’ve had quite a few dogs in my lifetime. He is so smart and with such a funny, sweet personality. He is great with people , other dogs , and children. He has a gorgeous black fleece coat and is very easy to train. He has been such a fun addition to our family! Thank you, Bestland!+0Posted on Google![]()

We are so happy that we found our dream dog at Bestland! We had searched for an Australian Labradoodle for a while that looks just like Bailey. She stayed at Bestland for training for six weeks and came home completely crate trained through the night, potty trained every hour, and leash trained. It was also helpful watching Jeremy's training video and getting his helpful training tips once we got home. He makes himself available to help answer my questions which is so nice for a first time puppy owner. We are so happy to have Bailey! She is absolutely adorable, has an incredible friendly and a loving personality; everything we were looking for in a dog! Thank you Bestland!+1Posted on Google![]()

Bestland puppies are the best! We are in love of our puppy Cooper. He is such sweet, lovely, cute playful little boy. He bring so much joy to our lives since he came. We are in Framingham, Massachusetts and Cooper came to us through a wonderful nanny flight delivery service all the way from Georgia!! Jeremy is a great breeder, He gave us many advices and helped us to get ready to welcome our puppy and made the adoption process smooth. The distance was not an inconvenient. Cooper is a good puppy, behave very well for his age, sleep well through the night since first day!! We love him so much and we are very happy 😍.
